York Families Wellbeing service

York Families Wellbeing service

Team Lead: Chloe Loxton

Please note this service has been de-commissioned and we are no longer able to receive referrals. We will be closing the service on the 31st March 2024. We would like to thank everyone that has been involved in this service over the years and it is with a heavy heart that we are closing.

About the service

The York Families Wellbeing team provides community-based support to families within the City of York area. The service supports families to overcome any issues which may have a negative impact on their children’s wellbeing.

We work with families whose resident children are aged 0-19 years old, or 0-25 years old where the child has a disability. We welcome the opportunity to support families for whom English is not their first language and will engage language or British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters to make our service accessible to as many people as possible. Families who may have mental health needs, autism or learning disabilities are also very welcome.

Our service can help with the following:

  • Preventing homelessness
  • Debt and budgeting
  • Discrimination
  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Accessing the correct benefits
  • Accessing training, education and employment
  • Social isolation
  • Accessing support for historic or domestic abuse
  • Accessing physical/mental health support
  • Accessing support for substance abuse
  • Accessing support around autism or learning disabilities

We work with each family in a trauma-informed way to understand their individual needs and help them to achieve their goals. We can also support families to access help for children, where needed, and work in partnership with schools, Health Visitors, Early Help and Children’s Social Care to do this.

Aims of the service

Our aim is to enable every child to be happy, resilient and safe within their family home and the wider community. We do this by supporting and enabling parents and carers to meet their own and their children’s day-to-day housing, financial and wellbeing needs.

We support families to develop the confidence to move their lives in positive directions and to meet their personal goals. We do this by building trust, working creatively and encouraging personal growth. Our ultimate aim is to create strong and independent families who are able to manage their lives successfully and confidently on their own.

We are open five days a week: Monday – Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm, Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm.
