Bright Ideas Projects : Round 2

May 2018 saw the launch of the second round of the Bright Ideas Fund, our internal fund for service users and employees to apply for projects or activities which will directly benefit our service users.

Once again we had an amazing response, with lots of creative and innovative ideas, with our service users involved in the design and delivery of each of the funded projects. The projects are:

Walker House and Rose Vill walking group. One of our service users had previous experience of running a walking group during his time in hospital and came up with the idea of a Community Links walking group open to all of our residential services. Walking is a great way to promote wellbeing and provides the opportunity for service users to develop friendships from across our services. The walks, planned by our service users, will run monthly and the funding will go towards walking equipment and water proof clothing to ensure that service users were safe and well equipped for their walks. The taster walk early this year at Golden Acre Park was a great success, with a great turn out, including the sun.

The Maltings and Walker House – podcast production. Service users wanted the opportunity to talk about their personal mental health journeys and offer an insight into the day to day life at Community Links. Service users have recently spent time over at Chapel FM having a training session and recording their first podcast.  We are looking forward to being able to share these with you very soon!

Changes – peer led social group. Service users at our Changes service wanted a space to be able to develop supportive and healthy friendships with others who can truly understand the challenges of living with Personality Disorder, something that is often so misunderstood by those that haven’t experienced it. Through the Bright Ideas Fund we will be helping them to get their peer led social group for women up and running, where the group can meet and get involved in meaningful activities including walks, days outs and arts and crafts.

Young Dementia Leeds – sensory garden. The Young Dementia Leeds Hub has an outside space and the money from the Bright Ideas Fund will be used to great both a social space where service users can socialise and take part in outdoor activities and a sensory space full of colour, smells, tastes, textures that evoke memories and a sense of well- being. Service users have been fully involved in the design, development and maintenance of the garden, supported by Leeds based conservation charity Hollybush TCV.
