Walker House and Blandford Grove are the perfect service for individuals who aren’t quite ready to live alone or manage their own tenancy without frequent input from a support worker. It is seen as a ‘step down’ unit for those that have been in a more supported residential service and are ready to work towards living more independently in the community but may still benefit from the support of a worker who is available readily throughout the week.
Walker House and Blandford grove offer Level 3 support. This includes floating mental health support arranged with a key worker 2-3 times a week for up to 8 hours including administration time.
Support is delivered via two Mental Health Support Workers and a Senior worker who are based in the local areas, Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. We welcome diversity and are sensitive around individuals’ cultural & religious needs.
The Walker House accommodation is made up of 3 individual studio flats and 3 individual 1-bedroom flats, with all the units being fully furnished. A community ethos is important; while there is no communal environment for residents, there is a drive to establish a regular routine of communal activities in order to provide the opportunity for people to develop relationships, practice social skills and find valued peer to peer support.
Blandford Grove accommodation is a three-bedroom shared house, with all units fully furnished. Again, a community ethos is important and there is a large part of support involving establishing a regular routine of getting into the local community to develop relationships and occupation.
Personal centred support plans are used to gain an understanding of the individuals’ main support needs and the Outcome Star tool is used to chart individuals’ progress as they move through the service.
The team provides support to assist people in learning to deal with their personal challenges and individual goals, giving people time to develop independent living skills. The support offered is tailored to individuals’ own needs, with a focus on recovery and gaining the skills needed to live more independently upon discharge.
Please note that people should be assessed by adult social care for individual supported living funding called a SLISA and approved before a referral to the service is made. Some individuals may not be awarded the full amount to cover support and should speak to their social worker regarding this.
The service is able to offer eight hours of support over each week which includes administration support.
Residents are responsible for their own utilities at Walker House.
