About the service

Maltings Close provides accommodation and support to men and woman with a range of mental health difficulties. We are a medium term service that compromises of four rooms within the hostel, six individual bedsits on site and six self-contained houses in the community, in which we provide floating support and the opportunity to access the Maltings hostel for additional support outside of planned weekly visits.

Aims of the service

We aim to support people to improve their quality of life by addressing needs in-line with their mental health problems as well as addressing pragmatic support needs in order to develop and improve confidence with individual’s day to day living skills. All support is underpinned with an ethos that prioritises the importance of working with individuals to become more independent and self-sufficient as they progress through the service. We aim to support all residents to be able to manage living more independently within the community at the point of discharge.

We support people 18 years+ who have a mental health problem or a personality disorder. Service users are encouraged to get involved in the running of the hostel and involve themselves in the decisions that affect them, with emphasis placed on building and maintaining a supportive community.

The staff team consists of six mental health support workers and while we place an importance on having a team approach each Service User will have their own key worker. We also utilise person centred support plans as well as the Outcome Star to chart individuals’ progress and aside from these things, we also encourage Service Users to take part in the running of the hostel, with the view that Maltings Close is their home and the more responsibility they have for the day to day running of it, the more confident they will feel when moving onto more independent accommodation.

Maltings Close is unique, owing to the fact we can offer different levels of accommodation that suits the changings needs of the Individuals we support. For example if someone is leaving hospital a room in the hostel might be more appropriate but as and when that person is feeling more confident, we can then support them to move into one of the adjoining bedsits and then finally into one of our managed tenancies in the local community.
