Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm
AIM To give participants an understanding of how to identify and integrate the evidence and value base with Risk Assessment, as well as understand and practice Best Practice.
By the end of the session you will have had the opportunity to:
Consider how safety planning connects to risk assessment, how the values and principles that underpin other client work inform safety planning, and what this means for practice, to help integrate conversations and information about risk with other client work. You will also have had the opportunity to compare safety planning conversations with your existing practice to confirm and augment your existing practice and see how safety planning acknowledges much good work that is already being done.
Best practice: integrating risk assessment and safety planning
As the evidence base for risk assessment changes, along with guidelines for best practice, this training considers emerging ideas around safety planning: what it is, where it fits alongside other client work, how other client work can help inform and shape safety planning, as well as concrete examples of the focus for safety planning and questions to help guide conversations with clients to ensure that the work remains client-centred and focused on good risk enablement.
During this session, we will:
- Integrate risk assessment with evidence and value base
- Identify links between risk assessment and other client work
- Discuss implications of shift in focus from risk to safety
- Identify key questions for safety planning
- View best practice guidelines
