Public Health Leeds have been successful in receiving a grant to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention training during COVID-19. This has enabled this MHFA online training courses to be accessed free by anyone who meets the below criteria:
Individuals working in Leeds supporting people at experiencing or at risk of poor mental health and meeting ONE or more of the below criteria:
1. Frontline staff working in the 3rd sector
2. Volunteers
3. Small businesses
AIM – This course teaches participants how to recognise and respond appropriately to signs of emotional distress
At the end of the course participants will:
• Understand the concept of mental health and the myths that can contribute towards stigma
• Identify signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions
• Feel more confident when responding to people in distress
• Identify support options available
This half day course achieves this by raising your awareness about the different mental health conditions and helping people understand the vital importance in the prevention of and recovery from emotional and psychological difficulties. You will also learn how to recognise mental health issues in others and how to guide people towards professional help.
