Cultural Competency & Mental Health First Aid (MHFAider)

Kirklees: Thursday 14th March 9am-1pm and Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd March 

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

· Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide

them with first-level support and early intervention

· Improved knowledge of cultural attitudes to mental health

· Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and

other supports

· Increased cultural humility and increased awareness of internal stereotypes

· Practice active listening and empathy

· Key principle of Trauma Informed practice

· Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language

and stigma

· Increased knowledge and understanding around the impact of structural inequalities on mental health and how to address this in practice.

The course will take place over two and a half days. Participants will complete a half-day course in Cultural Competent approaches to mental health, followed by the MHFA England Course. We are happy to offer the training for free across West Yorkshire on the following dates and locations:
