ASIST - Being You Leeds

Start Date: 7th May 24
Location: Leeds
Price: FREE to all frontline workers in Leeds including volunteers and peer mentors

This training is being funded by Being You Leeds to increase access to Mental Health Training for:

  • community organisations, charities and non-profit organisations
  • volunteers as well as paid workers

We are keen to ensure that those attending either work or volunteer for:

  • organisations working within the most deprived areas of Leeds or
  • organisations supporting socially excluded groups and communities with the worst health outcomes

To qualify for a free place, you must also be (working or volunteering) directly supporting people (i.e. a frontline worker).

Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th May  08.30- 16.30

Both dates must be attended to complete the course

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Recognise invitations for help
  • Reach out and offer support
  • Review the risk of suicide
  • Apply a suicide intervention model
  • Link people with community resources

Recognised by the Department of Health, ASIST is fast becoming an essential tool for all community caregivers. This is a two day course that aims to break down stereotypes and misinformation about suicide and gives participants an evidence-based approach to those at risk. Participants will have a chance to analyse their own views about suicide, they will be introduced to the intervention model and given opportunities to observe and practise skills in effective suicide intervention.
