Trauma Informed Practice

Start Date: 26th September 24
Location: Leeds, LS8
Price: £99

Time: 9:30am – 4:30pm

Aim: To enable participants to become more psychologically informed about the impact of experiencing trauma

The majority of people accessing mental health, substance abuse, homeless and criminal justice services have trauma histories.  Despite this high prevalence, the role of trauma is often unaddressed by both services and practitioners.  Emerging evidence from the field of trauma research is leading to a new understanding of the psychological and neuro-biological impacts of trauma and highlighting new possibilities for recovery.

At the end this session, participants will have:

  • An understanding of different types of trauma
  • An overview of diagnosis related to experiencing trauma
  • Been introduced to psychological models used to explain trauma
  • An overview of the principles of best practice
  • Have reflected on their own practice

This course is aimed at anyone interested in developing their understanding of trauma and the impact it can have on people’s psychological and physical health.  It will explore how experiences of trauma in both childhood and adulthood can affect people psychological, physically, behaviourally and emotionally.  It may be of particular interested to practitioners working with people who have had experiences of trauma or have been diagnosed with / experiencing symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD, psychosis and personality disorders.  Furthermore, it complements the ‘Understanding Personality & Personality Disorders’ training, which is also a prerequisite to the Level 2 ‘Working with Personality Disorder & Complex Trauma’ training currently delivered by Community Links.  The course uses a number of learning activities (for example: presentation, group work and reflection) to help participants develop their understanding.
