AIM: To teach participants the skills needed to make a safeguarding referral, taking into consideration consent and capacity of the alleged adult at risk.

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Respond to safeguarding alerts and refer appropriately
  • Understand the personal values and beliefs that underpin the safeguarding of adults at risk
  • Understand best practice in offering support
  • Understand procedures when reporting abuse and following an alert

This course is aimed at all staff with a supervisory or management role who will have the responsibility for dealing with concerns and referring appropriately.  It looks at the potential signs and signals of abuse and fulfilling your duty to pass on any disclosures or allegations.  The course covers how to address any immediate safety or protection needs of the alleged adult at risk, including the recording of the incident in your workplace, and the procedures to follow when making a safeguarding referral.
