About the service

Maltings Close provides accommodation and support to people 18+ with a range of mental health difficulties. We are a medium-term service that compromises of:

  • Four rooms in the hostel
  • Six individual bedsits (under assured shorthold tenancies) on site
  • Two self-contained houses (under assured shorthold tenancies) in the community
  • Floating support for four people in the community who have their own tenancies, with access to Maltings Close for additional support outside of planned fortnightly visits.

Each aspect of the service can provide support for up to 2 years.

Aims of the service

We aim to provide support to give people time to develop independent living and wellbeing skills. The support offered is tailored to individual needs, with a focus on independence, developing skills and enhancing individual strengths to enable independent living. We aim to support residents to live self-sufficiently in the community at the point where they move on to their own accommodation.

We support people 18 years+ who have a mental health or personality disorder diagnosis.  Service users are expected to get involved in the running of the hostel and the decisions that affect them, with emphasis on building a supportive community.  Support is provided by five full-time and one part time mental health support workers.   Support is available 24/7 with a member of staff available for emergencies overnight.  Service users will be allocated a keyworker, however, we take a team approach and all staff are involved in day to day support of residents. The keyworker will work with the individual to co-produce a support plan based on individual strengths and goals.  We use the Outcome Star to help the individual monitor their progress.

At Maltings Close, the community ethos is central. It provides the opportunity for people to develop relationships, social skills and discover personal attributes that can help improve wellbeing and living skills.

Maltings Close is unique – depending on your level of independence and living skills, we can offer different levels of accommodation to suit.  The hostel is suitable for those who have a basic level of independence in managing their self-care, medication and day to day living skills.  A move in to the flats would require a greater level of independence around self-management and less reliance on daily support.  Those living in the community can access support when needed, however service users would be expected to manage with minimal support.  Those wishing to access floating support must live within two miles of Maltings Close.

Whilst our aim is to be inclusive, unfortunately we cannot accept referrals from those who need help with personal care, have a diagnosis of dementia or a severe learning disability.  Having a forensic history does not automatically exclude an individual, this will be assessed on a case by case basis.

We cannot accept service users who have a primary diagnosis of drug/alcohol misuse.
