About the service

aspire is the Leeds Early Intervention in Psychosis Service, providing holistic care coordination to people between the ages of 14 and 65 who are, or may be, experiencing their first episode of psychosis.  We provide support to families, friends and social networks of the person in relation to their experience of psychosis too.

The primary aim of the service is to reduce the duration of untreated psychosis and support recovery, positive mental health and wellbeing for all service users.  We promote understanding around psychosis, working in therapeutic, practical and creative ways with the people we support. aspire can support people for up to 3 years.

Referrals

aspire operates an open referral system, meaning anyone can refer to our service – medical professionals, counsellors, teachers, concerned family/friends or the person experiencing difficulties – by completing the referral form on the right and emailing it to aspiredutydesk.lypft@nhs.net, or by calling 0113 200 9170.  A duty worker is available by phone Monday – Friday 9am – 6pm.

For further  information about what psychosis is, how aspire can help, what format this support will take and how we can support your family and friends, please use the links on the right-hand side of this page to download our information booklets

Voyage To Recovery

For a second year, we invited clients to participate in an adventure therapy sailing trip up the East coast of England.

The Voyage to Recovery is a National Project which aimed to sail from the South Coast around Scotland and back via the East Coast. The Leeds team sailed from Hartlepool to Ipswich before returning to Leeds.

Psychosis is an impactful life event, so any intervention needs to be equally impactful. Adventure therapy uses new and challenging environments to create physical demand. The trip helps participants form social connections and promotes the learning of new skills.

The Voyage to Recovery works in partnership with the Cirdan Sailing Trust, which will be provided the boat, Faramir. A three-person crew trained and supported the aspire team on how to sail and navigate Faramir during their East Coast leg of the trip.
