Keeping warm and well throughout winter

We are supporting our service users to keep warm and well this winter through our innovative ‘Winter Warmers Packs’ project.

Accommodation Gateway service users can choose from a ‘pick and mix’ list of items, all designed to keep them warm and well in their own homes and when they are out and about in the cold winter weather. This could be anything from a pair of gloves or a fleece blanket, through to a dehumidifier or oil heater.

We were delighted to receive funding for this project from the Leeds Community Foundation Winter Wellbeing Community Grants Scheme which is intended to support people who may be at risk due to living in cold housing. The Scheme is supporting innovative projects which help people to prepare for and cope with cold weather by addressing social isolation, increasing resilience and helping reduce levels of illnesses and deaths.

The Accommodation Gateway is a partnership between Community Links and Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT), which works with individuals being discharged from acute mental health wards, or those who are care coordinated under Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) in Leeds, providing housing pathways and support.

Often those with poor mental are living on the poverty line, leading to poor physical health and social isolation. Winter months, with cold dark nights can often be the loneliest time of the year. This project aims to address this issue by giving a little help to support those most vulnerable and to remain comfortable in their own homes rather than on a ward in hospitals.
