New Early Onset Dementia Service Launched

The new Young Dementia Leeds service was officially launched on the 19th July by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Graham Latty along with one of the hub service users, Sarah Jones.

The service is a partnership between Community Links and Carers Leeds which offers support for people in Leeds with a diagnosis of early onset dementia, as well as offering support to carers and family members.

Service users attend from a wide area of Leeds and can participate in many activities ranging from arts and crafts to memory sessions. A quiet sensory room and a 70’s themed hairdressing salon are special features at the hub as well as a lovely sensory garden which has recently been developed with the help of conservation volunteers TCV Hollybush.

The well attended event which took place at the Young Dementia Leeds Hub included speeches by Ruth Kettle, Chief Executive of Community Links, Val Hewison, Chief Executive of Carers Leeds and the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Graham Latty.  Cllr. Wakefield, Deputy Executive Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adults was also in attendance along with many service users, their carers/family members and other members of the local community.
