Improving Access to Mental Health Services for Deaf People

Community Links recently launched Breaking Down the Barriers in Mental Health Services booklet. The event which took place on the 1 July 2008, at 7 in Headingley, Leeds was to promote the good practice guide to improving Deaf Access. Gerard Cooper, Deaf and Mental Health Community Development Worker from Community Links gave a presentation on the booklet. Guest speaker, Howard Beck (Equality Development Officer, Leeds City Council) gave a brief history of Deaf mental health services in Leeds.

The Good Practice Guide was created in an effort to take that first step towards breaking down barriers to services within Leeds. Often people don’t know what to do, or where to start. The guide will hopefully solve some of these issues and give people a starting point (preparation).
