Stop Hate UK and Community Links

Unique national campaign starts crime reporting of mental health abuse.

Hate crime affects 3 out of 4 people with a mental health problem. At present this goes virtually unreported and so two charities, Community Links and Stop Hate UK, have launched a new campaign to inform people of their rights and offer support to victims.

Community Links, a leading mental health charity, raised the issue with Stop Hate UK due to the numbers of people they support who have suffered harassment, verbal abuse, intimidation and even attacks simply because they have a mental health problem.

“People often aren’t aware that this is a hate crime and the numbers reporting incidents to Stop Hate UK are negligible; this campaign is to inform and encourage people to report such incidents.”  said Rose Simkins (Chief Executive, Stop Hate UK)

Stop Hate UK provides a 24 hour helpline to monitor and offer telephone support to those subject to this crime.  www.stophateuk.org
