Recovery
Community Links understanding of recovery
Community Links includes Recovery in its mission statement and advocates the concept for people with mental health problems and emotional difficulties.
So what is Recovery?
Community Links has a broad framework of understanding of recovery.
· It is the process whereby people gain an understanding of their mental health leading to an increased sense of personal control and the ability to reduce periods of distress and the disruption it causes to their lives.
· It is about living with hope, coping with distress and having greater autonomy and viewing people as being expert in their own mental health and having the capacity to have control of their lives.
Implications for Community Links staff
· For Community Links it means acknowledging that Recovery is a possibility for all.
· It needs to defined by our service users’ perceptions in terms of what is and isn’t helpful to them and how successful they feel we are in supporting them.
· It means we need to attempt to understand fully the social context within which our service users live and the impact of society prejudice, stigma, mental health services and the media.
